Travelogue: Kota Kinabalu ’10

12 Dec

First day,

All dressed up & ready to go to their biggest shopping mall – One borneo! It wasn’t too bad, there are many international outlets over there, and we managed to catch “The next 3 days”, which was remarkably good!

They have these massage chairs in the mall which costs you $1 for 3 mins, & $5 for 15 mins if I’m not wrong. Hehe, quite shiok!

& then we made our way to their Filipino Market. According to some blog, the open-air market sells grilled seafood and it’s a place where you can truly experience the Kota Kinabalu lifestyle.

When we reached there, we were so thrilled! Because of the rows and rows of vendors selling delicious-looking seafood like the one above. So we happily found seats and ordered a table full of them…

Chicken wings.

Grilled sotong with chilli

Pengkan fish

Fried rice

Grilled prawns with chilli

Looked so yummy! But it was all a facade. The food was so bad 😦 We were expecting Chomp chomp standards but in the end, I don’t know, Singapore seafood turned out to be way better than what we had. If the vendors had put in so much effort to make their food look so palatable, then why not put the exact effort to make it taste really tasty too?

To quote yihang, Filipino market was a “MAJOR disappointment”!

Second day,

got up earlier than Fatty because I was very excited for the beach! Love the seas, hehe. Pestered him to wake up quickly to get ready and went downstairs to have our breakfast.

Dimsum which wasn’t so bad, but the feeling was just wrong… There are a lot of natives in KK, so they end up selling Chinese food. So you’ll see natives selling dimsum, or natives selling ban mian. It’s quite weird, it’s like seeing Indian selling Tau Huay or Malay selling wantonmee, you get what I mean right?

Woo, this was nice!

Quick, guess what’s that!

It’s their Kway Chap which looks as dark as Vun’s kopi-o, hahaha, & it doesn’t taste as nice as ours too. I’m not trying to condemn every dish we had in KK, but that’s really the fact!

After the not-so-hearty breakfast, we made our way to the jetty. It was a beautiful morning, just nice for our island exploration! 🙂

Had to put on our lifejackets before boarding, the speedboat ride was really fun! Heh.

Reached our destination!

To see their beautiful beaches & play sea sports, you’d have to take a boat to go to their islands. They have 5 main islands, and we chose Pulau Manukan, it’s their most popular island of all.

The waters looked very clear, & we couldn’t wait to go snorkelling!

But before that, the people there arranged us to go for our parasailing first. Which was so fun, but so short, only 30 minutes, or isit 15 minutes I can’t remember. Imagine being up in the air… with the one you love… just the two of you… holding on to your dear life.

We went high upppppp

& then went downnnnn into the waterssss

& right up again!

Sliding on the surface of the water made me feel like I was wakeboarding. Ah, wakeboarding… I miss wakeboarding…

We went back to the island after our session ended, then someone started talking us in melayu, and I started daydreaming. 10 minutes later, Leong asked if I want to try jet-skiing. At that moment I looked at him and I was thinking “Are you kidding? Of course I want lah!” but then I have to be the good wife that needs to refrain him from spending so much money. So I said, “Is it expensive? If it’s expensive then don’t lah… it’s okay.” Then he looked at me and said, “钱不是问题”, so I replied with a “LAI LAH ON LAH, LET’S GO!!!”

Heh heh heh.

I looked scared bc I’m entrusting my whole life to him.

& then it’s my turn to ride the jetski and I sped like nobody’s business and scared him to death hahahah. It was so thrilling we laughed non-stop while jet-skiing. And after that I refused to trade seats with him bc I will never allow myself to be tortured the same way as I did to him hehe.

Happy!!!

Put me near the ocean and I’ll be smiling all the way 😀

So we went for our snorkelling and realized the waters isn’t as clear as we thought it’d be. Anyway, we snorkeled a little and declared that we were too exhausted to continue,

so we went back to shore and attempted to dry myself up with the breeze cus I was lazy to bath there. 🙂

Went back to the hotel and had a nice warm bath before we headed out again for dinner.

Steamboat for dinner!

Third day,

View from our room, not bad right? 🙂

Love this ring! 🙂

After taking tons of pictures with myself and all ready to go, I was wondering what was Leong doing since his favourite “Monster fish” has ended, I walked to where he is only to find him brushing his Blackberry with a big brush, hahaha how uncle can he get!

Anyway, we had no idea where to go… KK was so boring that we ran out of places to explore by the 3rd day. We decided to walk quite a distance to a newly-opened mall, only to realize that only a small number of shops are in business. So we walked back to the vicinity near our hotel and tried their yogurt!

Then we went to one of the nearest shopping mall near the hotel and bought tickets to “Unstoppable” and “Bruce Lee”, each ticket only cost SGD3.5, cheap like siao! I supported “Bruce Lee” because my Hongkong model-friend acted in it, not just cameo, but she really have lines okay! Haha.

Before the show, we went for a superb massage. Full body massage (1 hr) and foot massage (30 mins) only costs us MYR50 for each person! Cheap cheap! & it felt damn good. After the relaxation, we went to the market and had seafood for our last dinner over there 🙂

I love this!

It was my firs time trying this so I said to Leong, “eh nice lei, but Singapore don’t have right?” then he looked at me as if I’m an idiot and said, “have! Chomp chomp got sell!”, then I looked at him knowing I’m an idiot and said, “huh! really meh!”

Moral of the story is: I’m gonna eat this at Chomp chomp the next time I’m there. Real nice! 😀

The crab turned out to be quite disappointing though. But by the look of this:

You’d figured that the entire meal was really delicious. Easily the best meal we had in KK! Slurrrrp.

Then we headed back to the mall, ready to watch two movies in a row.

& I know I’m being childish but hahahahaha who calls their cineplex GROWBALL? What the hell? GROWBALL LEH! Hahahaha. Okok, this is boliao, next!

& we sang, okay I sang at this box thingy. It’s a karaoke box and it cost like  MYR 6 to sing for 12 mins, eh I really cannot remember. Anyway when your time’s up, your song will just cut off. Which left me feeling so paisay and lost because my song got cut off just as I was reaching the climax!

Last day,

my eyes looks swollen bc of the lack of sleep and the early flight to catch that morning, also bc of the crying as the trip has come to an end :/

Quote “Dear John”, “I’ll see you soon.”

See you soon honey! ❤
